Housing:

This sizeable development of houses for sale is situated on the southern boundary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The planning application was difficult. A fruitful collaboration between the planning authority, the client and the vendors architect, who had implemented the first phase, enabled Birkett Cole Lowe to evolve a master plan which is considerably more interesting spatially than normal speculative developments.

A generous ‘Village Green is contrasted with ‘tighter’ areas where terraced forms and three storey dwellings have been used to bring the density up to an economic level.

The attractive design of the house types enabled values on this ‘up market’ development to be maintained. Some of the house types are completely to BCL’s design others are the clients’ standard types ‘re-dressed’ by BCL for the sensitive location.
